I grew up in northern Ontario, Canada, and spent my childhood reading Calvin and Hobbes, learning to program video games, and going for long walks with my dad while discussing life, the universe, and everything.
Today, I'm studying computer science at Stanford with support from the Masason Foundation. I'll be graduating in December.
When I'm at a computer, I'm building intelligent sidewalk robots at HYPR! I focus mainly on robotics and computer vision, but in the past I've worked on NLP, RL, and many other topics.
When I'm not at a computer, I'm probably playing the piano (and occasionally recording); hiking somewhere away from any recognizable trail; or reading about the physics and philosophy of consciousness, the arrow of time, or something like that.
Independent of whether or not I'm at a computer, I'm probably listening to Phish, or one of a long list of jazz musicians ranging from famous to so obscure their music has disappeared off the face of the earth with the exception of underground vinyl shops in Tokyo.
